Week Five....

This week focused a lot on getting our final project together, doing some SM comparisons (interesting), and some research on Google. Google is the company pretty much every other company aspires to be. They love their employees which comes through in everything they do. Our final project will be implementing some SM strategies for the Chicago Institute of Advanced Bariatrics. They have a great new marketing campaign recently launched in June 2012, but surprisingly no SM tools as a part of it. We have discussed a Facebook page, possibly Twitter, and a few others. Because it can be a sensitive topic, this may determine what tools we use and why. It should be interesting!

More social media....

This week class focused a lot on LinkedIn, and some readings on Facebook, two forms of SM that I can say I use a lot, both on a personal and professional level. I've used LinkedIn for several years now, really before it became the popular tool it is today. I think it's a great way to stay in contact with people you meet, but also to network your skills and qualifications. In this crazy economy and job market, it is important that there is a resource like this to go to, as so many opportunities these days almost depend on who you know, at least in my field. Facebook is another SM tool I use both on a personal and professional level (for the gym). I'm often a huge critic of FB but you cant deny its huge impact on the world in which we live....and also just because she's cute....my other dog Bailey!

Social Media part two......

So this week in class we focused on Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and some Pinterest. This is where I start to become skeptical. I can see the value in Twitter as a business tool, not so much as a personal everyday thing. Do we all really care in a sentence what other people are doing?? Had some problems getting Flickr to cooperate, and was able to upload photos....unsure if others can find them though. Isn't SM supposed to be user friendly? Pinterest is that one area though that I just don't "get." Maybe it's because I just don't have the time for it? Is it just for hobbies and interests? What is the point of that?? Anyway, I will make a concerted effort to utilize Twitter more from a business perspective. Could be interesting. Just because she's cute, here's an attached pic of one of my corgis, Mocha.

Social Media July 2012

So I'm taking a class for school this summer called Social Media. I think it came at a pretty appropriate time too, because clearly I haven't touched this blog for awhile! And I would like to become more comfortable with not only how to use it, but how to use it effectively. I will be traveling to Thailand this upcoming November and I would like to blog about this trip, as it will prove to be quite fascinating. So the class covers all aspects of SM, but the ones I really need to work on and embrace are blogging, Twitter (is that really useful?) and maybe a of couple others. There are more types of SM out there than I even realized and I think it will continue to only grow as the months and years progress. As a business owner, it is imperative that this form of communication is embraced and used frequently, as this is the way of the future.
